four years.

four years ago today, i married my high school sweetie.  ahhhh, love.

yes, matt and i have been married four years, but he will be quick to add...'but we've been together for what, ten?'  yes honey, we have been together for ten years.  if you do the math, then you know, we were still sucking our thumbs watching saturday morning cartoons when we...fell in love.  okay, maybe not that long ago, but ten years, that's a whole decade!

i remember how our parents (and his brother corey) would have to drive us to each other's house to see each other (as we didn't even have our drivers licenses yet), how sporting events and high school dances became a bonus because we had another excuse to be together, and how i became involved in managing the boys football, hockey and baseball teams because well, i'd be able to watch matt (and hang with my buds kim and hollie).  high school love is a lot like being addicted to crack now that i think about it.  it seemed as though we could not function without one another.  we were so weird.

i remember we had talked about when we wanted to get married (it was always 'next summer') after we moved in together (we lived in sin, yes) in august 2002.  in november he had this sudden 'knowledge' about diamonds.  i remember this is when 'beniffer' was hot in the tabloids and a 'pink diamond' had been all the rave.  i was telling matt how rare it was or making some comment about it, and all of a sudden he was talking to me like he was a freakin' jeweler.  he was ranting about how 'that was not the most rare diamond because of this, and this, and that' and that 'a perfect diamond has this and that', and whatever else he said that night.  i think i just sat there on the couch in complete amazement that he knew so much about diamonds.  oh, and maybe i had just a little hunch that something was up.  oh, i was right (like usual).

on december 3, 2002, matt asked me to be his wife.  this is what went down:  i had just gotten home from working out.  i was sweaty and gross, wearing some nasty old workout clothes.  nothing says romance like gross workout sweat.  at the time, our house was in 'remodeling hell' and there were tools, sheetrock, dust, paint cans, and other assorted items all over (funny, what has changed?).  matt had written on the inside of a sandpaper packet that he had run to duluth to get me a present and would be back soon.  i thought he was going to buy me a kitchen table...but i was wrong.  he was already back and in the living room.  he told me to come in there and was all smiles and acting weird.  i just figured he had been inhaling his fair share of paint fumes that day or something.  well, i looked and i saw him...step in on the mat, i looked and i saw him, the cat in the hat...oh wait, wrong story.  i looked down on our tattered couch and saw this little fuzzy brown bear, holding a red box.  this wasn't just any bear, this bear played music, sweet music.  and of course, matt told me to play it (dork).  i was thinking um, hello...isn't there something in that box? for me?  then he told me to open the box (dork).  i did and that is where i found my ring.  the rest was kind of a blur.  he said something along the lines of 'well, will you?' and of course i said 'yes!'.  dork.  then we went and told everyone we knew.  the rest is history.

ten years together, four of that in wedded bliss (hehehee).
i can't imagine my life without you baby.
