the crib went down.
gosh, it feels like i haven't blogged about real things for a while. well, let's talk about 'the crib'.
for the majority of tucker's life, i have had a love/hate relationship with his crib. i love it because of it's purpose, but i hate it because it can't seem to keep my kid inside. i mean, come on crib, help a girl out. okay, wait, i won't blame the crib, i'll blame myself. for period of time in tucker's life he has slept well in his crib (like the first seven months) and for a few spurts since. during all the other times inbetween, tucker would wake up and for the sake of not being zombies at work, we would just bring him into our bed whenever he woke up during the night. well, as you all know, that sucks (if you've been through it, or are going through it, you know). i mean, we all sleep fine, but he is there, with us, in bed...not ideal by far. anyways, i've tried everything to get tucker to sleep through the night in his crib without waking up. filling his belly up, different crib bedding, a pillow, no pillow, stuff in the crib, nothing in the crib, night light, no night light...nothing worked. he would always wake up in the middle of the night and if we did get up, soothe him or whatever and put him back in the crib, no lie, he would wake up almost every hour for the reminder of the night. there were a few times when we let him 'cry it out'. well, when it goes on for an hour, then two, and both of us have to get up in the morning for work...it doesn't make anyone happy. boy, this is such a messy story. messy because i'm all over the place and because i'm telling everyone our kid has sleeping issues. i don't know why, but i fell like i've done something wrong by this.
anyways, in an attempt to succeed at tucker sleeping in his room all night, we took the crib down on sunday (thanks for your help mom). tucker even helped. here's a shot of him and gram in action...and one of the crib-busters after the job was complete!
he was excited to see his 'new bed'. well, i just put his crib mattress on the floor as i'm not ready to put him in the 'big boy bed' yet. so far it is working okay. he's slept in there two nights in a row and even though he has woke up, we go in, tuck him back in, and he's out again. this is nice, however, there is one problem. when i go back in to 'tuck him in', i've ended up falling asleep on his bedroom floor each night. sad. i know. but whatever. atleast i know things are looking up.
so, that's the extended version of why the crib went down. have any of you mom's had sleeping issues with your kids?

yep, i'm going through the same thing... my 2 year old son was sleeping just fine in his crib until ohhhhhh about 3 months ago. then he got sick and i let him sleep in the bed w/us. and ever since then he refuses to sleep in his own bed. it's a mess!! i took down his crib, bought him a diego toddler bed set... nothing works. at this rate i think he'll be sleeping with us till he's 25. i see no light at the end of this here tunnel.

Puhleeze. My son is 15 now - but at least until he was...oh I hate to admit it...9 or 10 maybe? I would go in and lay next to him and talk -- when he was younger I would end up sleeping next to him every night.
Not good for a relationship! ::grin::

I had the same sort of experience with my youngest and his crib issues. It was a BATTLE!!! This may be what you/he needs. I did the same thing with the matress, but there was one thing I didn't think of in the beginning...... it is much colder being that low. You may want to keep the temperature in his room a bit warmer or use more blankets/warmer p.j.'s. I only know this from experience. After I did the same thing you did, the season changed.... it was winter and the cycle started again. After laying with him on the matress, I realized how it was so much cooler down there (and I was keeping the house between 65-67 degrees at night). Not trying to preach by any means, just hope this info helps you out because sleep is sooooo important for everyone! I can attest to that.
