thoughts for thursday: late edition.
so, all day i thought about what my 'thoughts for thursday' could be. i came up with nothing. there was nothing that i thought was worth my time to write about. nothing. i'm still drawing a blank.
tonight i got home and matt had made chicken taco's. yum! i love that hubby of mine! oh, hey, there's something. love!
i know valentine's day is a couple weeks away, but let's throw this out there for all you a little early. what is the most special thing your hubby/boyfriend/whoever has done for you on valentine's day? what was the best gift that person gave you? do you like getting flowers better or chocolates? do you dry the flowers and save them and hang them forever to be a crusty reminder of that day (hahaha - can you tell i don't like dried flowers)? what is your most memorable valentine's day? what is the most special thing you have done for your loved one on this day? lay it all out there people. i'm wondering what i'm going to do for matt on valentine's day this year. i want him to know how much i appreciate what he does around the house and all that jazz. i can only hope he does the same in return - right? :)
so to answer my own questions here we go: matt has never been big on gifts. i'm the kind of person that is particular about what the like. matt usually adds a few holidays together and gets me something or whatnot or does spontaneous nice things, but only a few times have i got flowers and i've never got chocolates. however, i prefer chocolate to flowers. my ass would say flowers, my mouth says chocolate. mouth always wins that one. anyways - my most memorable valentine's day was my senior year in high school. matt had come to my house after hockey practice. he came down to my room and had his hands behind his back. he then said some mushy things or whatever and pulled out one red rose...and...a little naked troll doll. yes, you read right. the naked troll doll had his hands open wide with a sign in one had that read 'i love you this much' and a little red heart in the other hand. ahh, it was so dorky it was cute. that's the thing: matt, he can be dorky like that. but he's my dork and it made me smile. i always will get him a little something - some type of gift. i used to love, love, love getting valentine's day cards in my special box when i was in gradeschool. that was so dang cool. i can't wait until tucker is doing that kind of stuff - if they even do that anymore in school! one more thing - i am SO not into dried flowers. they just get all old and crusty and dry and dusty and well, i'm just not into that. sorry if you are - it's just not my style. so, now it's your turn.
show me some love people! show me some love!

So, Eli does nice stuff for me.... but, I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT IT IS! Don't tell:)
Our anniversary is on the 22nd so... he wishes that it was all on the same day.
IDK what I like better.... neither chocolate or flowers. Well, I'll take both if I'm getting something but... save it. I'll take a card instead:)

Hmmm, well I'd say the year that is most memorable was Brian's freshman year in college. I went to visit him, he made me a great dinner, made a valentine for me (by hand!) and we had wine. The wine was nasty since neither of us drank wine then. But it was sweet, he tried so hard. Since then, we really haven't done much, just dinner here and there. We don't tend to celebrate as I think it is such an over rated holiday (is it even a holiday?). This year who knows if we'll even get out. I'm like you though, I'd much rather have chocolate than flowers. Flowers just die and I definitely don't ever save them. They go straight into the garbage. I didn't even save my wedding bouquet!

Nothing Valentiney comes to mind. I've always had pretty low key V-days. We usually exchange cards and maybe have a nice dinner (usually at home after the kids go to bed). My hubby is a big card giver... he gives 'em out of the blue often for no reason and I love it! Now flowers or chocolate... not so much. I love getting flowers. Probably just because it's so rare around here! But I love love love having fresh flowers in the house. Especially in the winter -brightens things up a bit!
This year I was going to do a little more than just a plain card... I loved Ali Edwards' idea here:
so I was going to try something like that.
My friend was just telling me that for her boyfriend for V-day she was making him a book... like how on Shutterfly and such you can make a bound photo book, you know? She made up a children's story with characters she made with thumbprints that are her and him and the adventures they go on and she's having it printed and giving that to him for Valentines. I thought that was a cool idea!

My most memorable valentine's was in 2005. I was in college, V-day was on a Monday and Brian and I lived 2 hours apart so we decided to celebrate early. It was my first valentine's with a boyfriend so he wanted to make it special. He bought me a nice necklace and when he put it on me, he slipped my engagement ring on it and after I noticed it, he asked me to marry him. The other special valentine's for me was when I was in 5th grade and my dad sent me flowers at school, completely unexpected. I kept the vase and bear that was hugging the vase.
Now, our valentines is pretty low key. We exchange cards and Brian usually gets me flowers or something small and I get him a bunch of chocolate since he could eat it 24/7.

OK this has nothing to do with your post....was it perhaps you that won the photo naming contest over at the pioneer woman's site? Not that Jenny's a common name or anything....just curious.

Hey, I found your blog- cause you found mine... and have just been speed reading... love your post on the daily schedule and thoughts on your relationship with your husband... really made me think! I totally agree! Feb seems like a good month to work on that!

hmm, i can't think of any special valentine's days in particular. if anything, we'll go out for dinner, but we don't go out on v-day, we wait until the day before or after or the nearest weekend. i love when tom does romantic stuff, but he doesn't do it very often. it's fun when it's just random and not for valentine's day. or like once he got me flowers and a card on the anniversary of our engagement (we were already married but he wanted to tell me he was glad he had asked. :). things like that are cooler i think because they're a little more meaningful.

I really can't remember a Valentine's day that sticks out to me as memorable. It would probably be one in high school or during our early dating years when every little holiday was a must to celebrate. Now, though, we don't do much for Valentine's day (like, I get Ryan a card and he gets me flowers.... which in all honesty I think are a waste of money because they just die... I'm so weird.) We never even acknowledged Sweetest Day this year LOL! I guess I'd rather money be spent on more 'wanted' items than chocolates and flowers... like shopping... clothes.... scrapbook stuff LOL! I'm so unromantic.

You're gonna HATE my answer......cuz I HATE Valentine's day....the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me...my dad. When I was in HS he sent flowers to the school on Valentine's Day...The one and only thing I like about Valentine's Day is that the day after...happens to be the day of my birth:) yes, that's right...my birthday (#22 this year)...might be selfish...but that is the one and only reason I like Valentine's Day. I've had bf's on V-day, none have done anything special. So I just void that day out...and wait till the day after:)
