today was tucker's first day of kindergarten.
he has been counting down the endless days until school started and then, all of a sudden, it was here. last night before i tucked him in, he told me he was a little bit nervous. i told him that it was totally normal to be nervous because most of the other kids would be too. he was super excited at the same time, so that helped ease away the nervousness. i told him a lot of his friends would be there too. :)
he woke up this morning ... chomping at the bit. the one thing i know will be a challenge is to get him to eat a good breakfast in the morning. this kid is a picky little bird when it comes to eating. anyways, grandma cheryl was here to watch levi for the day and helped us get ready. then, we took the traditional 'first day of school' picture outside. he was SUPER pumped to hold the sign i made him. complete with goofy smile and weird antics ... the kindergartener:
then, we hopped in the car and were on our way. i think it's nice that i'm able to drop him off on my way to work and matt can pick him up as he is off before school is out. however, i know it won't be long and tucker is going to be wanting to ride the bus. anyways, we got to school and there were about a million parents doing the same thing as me. bringing in all the supplies for the classroom, taking the 'first day' pictures, and telling their little peeps to have the best day ever. tucker had been concerned that he would not remember how to open his locker. i told him i'm pretty sure he would remember. we found his locker and i opened it. he shut it and then reopened it. obviously, he was just checking his skills. we put his stuff away and i went in the classroom with him to bring his teacher his lunch money and ask her a question. she is such an awesome teacher ... she had made up little baggies for the parents. inside was a note to the parent, a kleenex (for our tears), tea (to relax) and a hershey kiss (incase our kiddos forgot to give one). it was cute. for a minute, i thought tucker was going to be scared. there were a lot of kids and parents in the room and it was a bit overwhelming. i gave him hugs and loves and then asked if i could take his picture. he shook his head yes and smiled a big nervous proud smile for me.
and i told him to have a good day ... and left. i have to admit, my eyes may have watered a little bit on my way to work. i mean, he's growing up, and fast.
now, for the report on how school was: he had fun. he ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at lunch (the alternative option to PIZZA). yes, he picked PB+J over pizza. he is not my child. anyways, he didn't get to rest very long (according to him) ... and if he is complaining about that it means he was tired. it was a long day and he couldn't come home and play (and all summer he wanted to leave home and go to school). and as you can imagine, getting anything else out of him about his day was like pulling teeth. he was way more excited about getting his walleye back that we had mounted for him. go figure.
so, just like that, he's growing up on me. i really hope i can volunteer in his classroom at some point so i can see how his day goes. i would love to get to peek in on his new world. :)
Sweet backpack Tucker!

I can't believe he is in kindergarten. It was strange when Levi and Gordy took their morning nap ( they napped at the same time) I sat there in silence...no Tucker bug to talk to. I really missed him then. We have awesome talks about everything from baking cookies to what the rocks on the moon are like....he has such an imagination...school is going to agree with him just fine, but I did miss my buddy today... I look forward to hearing about all his new experiences and stories he will have to tell now about his school days...life is moving along and this day is a new beginning in Tucker's life, I'm glad I'm still around to share it with him....life is good! Really, really good!
