it has been a while since i dedicated a post to tucker.
boy, do i have lots to share about the little dude.
i think the best way to keep this in order is to use bullets.
- he is learning his letters (and numbers). he knows all the letters of his name and a few others. i'm not sure what the 'timeline' is on this, but i'm proud of him.
- he is FINALLY sleeping through the night in his own bed. for the past two weeks or so, he hasn't got up until AFTER the sun has been up (to run into our room and get in bed with us). i hope i didn't jinx things by blogging about it.
- i've said it before, but the kid could basically live outside. with matt being home now (laid-off), many of their days are spent outside or at the playgrounds in town. he also knows a good way to get us outside in the evenings is to ask to have a fire and make smores. :)
- he's got a bit of a temper. i hate to admit it, but he kind of has a fuse like me, and it's a bit short. he gets frustrated so quickly with things that don't work RIGHT THIS SECOND. when he gets angry, he will hit and sometimes even bite. now, the biting is new and we've been trying to deal with it like any bad behavior. seriously - i HATE the biting. i do remember biting my brother (and he would bite back) when we were little. mom, what worked to make us stop? does anyone out there have little biters like me?
- last week while we were in duluth, we had to use a couple public restrooms. each time we were in them getting business taken care of, he didn't want to hear the toilet flush. i told him to sing if he didn't want to hear it, so he broke out into 'twinkle, twinkle little star'. i thought it was pretty funny.
- he loves circus peanuts. this weekend, his auntie tina stole one from him and our friend, david called her out on it. he told tucker to smell her breath to see if she did. tucker smelt her breath and when david asked him what it smelt like, he replied, 'pickles'. i thought that was cute.
- speaking of smelling things, he is big into smelling your breath or skin or his food. i think half of this comes from me asking to smell his breath after he brushes his teeth to make sure he did a good job. :)
- he loves his new spongebob underwear.
- he still is a little singer. i love when he will just break into the abc's or the bob the builder song. i think it's the 'theme' song. i should get that on video. some of you mom's out there might be familiar with it. ha!
- still wondering how in the heck i'm going to get him to take a dump on the toilet. he goes pee on it just fine, but we're struggling with the crap aspect of potty training. he holds it until he can find a spare second to get away from us where he will go in his pants. he hates it in his pants, but yet will not go in the toilet. he has started wanting to TRY more, but doesn't ever actually go on the toilet. he wants to read 'everyone poops' (and all the other potty books we have in the bathroom) but he doesn't ever get business done! he KNOWS what he should do, but isn't doing it. he says, 'i will tell you mom, i will tell you when i have to go poop', but there is no follow through. does anyone have any tricks? is there like a poop boot camp somewhere? help.
- now, in the hopes he would take care of his crap (literally) i called to sign him up for preschool. however, he is three weeks too young to be in the current class. they said that if they got 8 more kids, they could split the class into two and tucker could be in the younger class. however, if they don't get enough kids, he won't be able to attend preschool until next year. i'm so sad about this. i really wanted him to be able to go to two years of preschool. i keep thinking if i would have had him on (or around) his due date, he would have been a few months too young so i shouldn't complain, but it just sucks. i guess that is why i'm getting more crazy about him learning more at home. not that we weren't doing it before, but i don't want him to get behind those 'about' the same age.
- i love when he gives me kisses and hugs me so hard his little body shakes.
- when i call him anything (stinker, pumpkin, sweetie) he will say, 'i'm not a (stinker, pumpkin, sweetie), i'm tucker mathew cook! it just cracks me up.
- he loves to play computer games (disney playhouse online) as seen in the picture above.
- he understands and uses the phrase 'no fair'. like this evening it was 'no fair' that dad got to be outside weed whipping while he was stuck inside with me finishing his dinner. lovely.
i could keep going, but this is getting a bit long.
i have to start doing this more often and stop slacking!
You could send Tucker to preschool with his Auntie Tina a few times a week next year?! Just a thought...

I used to bite my brother when I was a kid. I don't remember what my parents did to make me stop, but I know my cousin also did it and it seems to be that a lot of kids do it. Sorry I'm not much help :(

Bribery! My little dude got potty trained last weekend. We put up three post-it notes on his door (numbered) and when he pooped in the potty, we took one down. When they were all down off the door he got to get his beloved PIRATE SHIP. He's been wanting one so badly.
But it only will work if he's absolutely passionate about something (like Louie is about Pirates!). Good luck!

I actually think you post on Tucker a lot! I always forget to do updates, and then when I think of doing them, there is just too much so I don't. Man, I suck! I love hearing what they are doing at diff. ages.
Bianca has a temper too. Lately it's been getting really bad so I told her every time she throws a fit about something she gets a timeout. It is actually enough to get her to stop. Go figure! I'm sure there is something to stop the fit from getting to the biting stage, you just have to figure out what it is for Tucker.
As for poop, well Annika was really hard to train on that too. It eventually just came but our dr said to put her on the potty after every meal, or about 10 minutes after. What goes in, has to come out! You could also do special potty presents for when he does #2 on the potty. Good luck with that! I have no real advice because I think it's 100% up to the kid. Annika was impossible and came around when she wanted to and Bianca potty trained herself. Gotta love that!
Ok, enough of this novel now!

Loved reading your bulleted Tucker post. What month was he born in?

I need to start posting more on Reyna...They grow so fast and I don't want to remember little details.
It sounds like you have such a fun little guy! :)

I'm interested in hearing everything you learn about getting a kid to poop in the toilet!
